Julia Neustroeva aka maramoro | mixed-media artist

Born in Altai in 1986, she lived in three cities across Russia. In 2015, she entered the contemporary art scene through textile art, and in 2017 participated in the parallel program of the 7th Moscow Biennale with a clothing collection. She founded the artists’ workshop Arthaim and the emerging art auction “Van Gogh for Stew,” held at FINEART Gallery at Winzavod.

Since 2019, she has been living nomadically around the world, exploring new materials including papier-mâché, painting, metal, and ceramics. In 2023, together with a group of artists, she realized her art project Oirotia as a traveling house in Indonesia, focused on immigration and cultural exchange.

Since then, all of her work has been connected to the theme of nomadism, unrestricted by techniques or materials.

In my artistic practice, I explore themes of nomadism, the formation of inner grounding, and the development of resilience in conditions of instability.

I work with the theme of play and the image of a fictional nomadic country that serves as a testing ground for artistic experiments. Through its mythology, I explore how contemporary nomadic people might live, their autonomy, ways of preserving and transforming culture, and the philosophical concepts that could make such a way of life possible.

Installations, ceramics, painting, mixed media.
